Fernando Alonso has welcomed comments from the head of Mercedes-Benz, Dieter Zetsche, whilst admitting to being annoyed by the lack of praise from within Ferrari.
The Spaniard was described as “perhaps the best driver” on the grid by Zetsche during a visit to Spain.
Reacting to the comments, the Ferrari driver said: “It’s always welcome when people see your job in a good way and respect what you try to do and what you try to achieve.”
However he admitted it was strange that praise generally comes from outside of his “inner circle”, hinting that Ferrari aren’t recognising his talent.
“Sometimes it’s strange to see good comments and good compliments from people from outside [Ferrari] and from the other side that are supposed to be close to you, there are the opposite comments.
“It’s motivating. It’s motivating for me and it’s good to receive good comments. But it’s funny when you see the opposite in your closest friends.”
Alonso is believed to be weighing up a decision to leave the Italian marque, potentially to join Mercedes or even McLaren for 2015.
