Daniel Ricciardo may lose his second place finish at the Australian Grand Prix after the stewards found his car had “exceeded the maximum allowed fuel flow.”
Under the new regulations, the flow of fuel to the engine is limited to 100kg per hour. Prior to the weekend, the FIA’s Charlie Whiting said this would be strictly governed.
After the race, in which the Australian scored his maiden podium, technical delegate Jo Bauer reported that Ricciardo’s car had exceeded this limit on a number of occasions.
“During the race car number 03 (Ricciardo) has exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100kg/h,” the document said.
“As this is not in compliance with Article 5.1.4 of the 2014 Formula One Technical Regulations, I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration.”
Red Bull’s Christian Horner has been called to the stewards to explain the situation, but it’s likely Ricciardo will be excluded from the race results, promoting Kevin Magnuseen to second and Jenson Button to third.
