‘Track and windtunnel now matching’ – Ferrari

Ferrari’s on-track findings are now matching those produced by its windtunnel, the team confirmed, following a major upgrade to the facility.

The Italian outfit blamed its windtunnel for giving inaccurate results compared to what it was actually finding on the circuit, which meant it struggled to match its rivals development pace.

In an attempt to catch up, they chose to close their own whilst it was upgraded, and switched to Toyota’s tunnel in Germany.

Team principal Stefano Domenicali confirmed the two were now giving accurate results, which has boosted their confidence for the 2014 season.

“These were four very demanding and important days to give us something to work on over the coming days in Maranello,” he said.

“The technical parameters of the F14 T, as well as the aerodynamic validation we saw on track, match our expectations and provide a solid starting point, which we must now exploit as much as possible.”

The Italian wouldn’t be drawn on where he believes Ferrari ranks amongst its competitors at such an early stage.

“We can’t evaluate performance levels at the moment, neither that of the F14 T, nor those of our rivals,” he continued. “The important thing is to do as many laps as possible to give our engineers the data they need to continue with the development of the car.

“It would be premature to make any precise evaluations. What counts for more is to have clear ideas on what we must do now and on the direction to take, so that we arrive in Melbourne in the best possible shape.”
