Jenson Button had a successful day behind the wheel of the McLaren MP4-29 after a disappointing Tuesday in which McLaren managed not a single lap.
The Briton completed 43 laps to go quickest, six tenths faster than Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen achieved during his 47 laps.
Valtteri Bottas was third once again for Williams and completed 35 laps, but it was Mercedes’s Nico Rosberg who pounded the lap in the W05 to make up for lost time on Tuesday. The German lapped the Jerez circuit 97 times, including a 24-lap stint.
Sergio Perez’s day ended early when his Force India broke down in a cloud of smoke. It was a similar problem for Sebastian Vettel too, after the champion could only manage 8 laps in total.
