Lotus are certain Quantum Motorsport has the money required to acquire a 35 per cent stake in the team, despite the deal having yet been finalised.
Doubts about the deal have begun to spread around the paddock, leading to team principal Eric Boullier insisting the money does exist.
“Yes, we have very serious proof of funds and good compliance of what Quantum Motorsport is,” he said on Friday.
“There is still some discussion ongoing, especially now between bankers,” he added.
Boullier expects the deal to be completed by “early next week” despite Lotus setting a deadline of this weekend before it turns to plan ‘B’, which is thought to be Pastor Maldonado’s PDVSA backing.
“The process is not fully completed but I think part of it has been done, which is obviously a good sign for the weekend and we hope that everything is closed by early next week.”
