Sergio Perez has reacted to the news that he is likely to lose his seat at McLaren by criticising the way the team has been run during a difficult season.
Perez only joined at the start of the current season and the expectation surrounding him led many to believe he would be capable of some great things.
However McLaren couldn’t deliver a car for him to show that talent, even 17 races in and McLaren are still struggling to score points consistently.
Perez blames the way in which the team’s management handled the earlier races in which they failed to come to terms with the lack of competitiveness.
“I’m very disappointed,” he is quoted by Totalrace. “I think when your goals are much higher than your results, you get disappointed. And that goes for both sides.
“It’s a great team, I have no doubt of it, with a very capable crew, but I think it lacked organisation and a little bit of humility to face the reality.
“During the season, being a great team, McLaren took a long time to recognise the reality of where we were, which was scoring points on a good weekend, and not winning races. The team took time to realise it.”
With Kevin Magnussen all but guaranteed the Mexican’s seat, Perez is looking to the future and many believe he’s a candidate to join Force India.
“I have to see what is the best option for the future. Before anything else, I support my country and that is what keeps me going forwards.”
