Whilst speculation has linked Ross Brawn to Williams for next season, team principal and founder Sir Frank Williams admits no contact has been made between the two.
Brawn, who started his career at Williams in 1978, looks set to leave Mercedes at the end of the current season due to a power struggle within the team.
Whilst his departure hasn’t been confirmed – and is news to Williams – speculation has been rife, with links to Williams, McLaren and Honda, but the 71-year-old team owner says nothing has been discussed.
“In truth I wasn’t aware that he was available,” he told Sky Sports. “I made no effort to contact him and I can say no more.”
When asked if he would welcome Brawn back, he replied: “He’s probably learnt as much about what not to do as what he should be doing, so certainly if he were to come here he would be a great addition.”
Though he thinks it unlikely, adding: “Obviously it’s very unlikely that we could afford Ross or whether he would want to come to us etc.”
