Kimi Raikkonen says he may consider skipping the final two races of the season following a relationship breakdown between him and Lotus.
The Finnish driver admitted he almost skipped the Abu Dhabi race, but managed to come to an understanding with the team, though he hinted that it might not be the same case in the US or Brazil.
“I came here [to Abu Dhabi] only because hopefully we found an understanding on the certain issues we have been having,” he told reporters on Friday.
When asked if he’d consider missing races this year, he replied: “For sure,” adding “I enjoy racing, I enjoy driving – but a big part of it is business.
“Sometimes when that is not dealt with like it should we end up in an unfortunate situation.
“You have to put the line somewhere, and if it goes over that… it is not really my fault any more.”
It’s believed Raikkonen has yet to receive any of his £10 million ($15m) salary this year. That, along with recent radio messages and the team questioning his loyalty, has put a strain on the relationship.
“Sometimes it is not very nice when you hear that you are not really a team player, and you don’t have the interests of the team [at heart] – but you have been paid zero Euro the whole year,” he said.
