Sauber have confirmed that Rubens Barrichello is on their driver shortlist for next season, but denied rumours he would be in the C32 in Brazil.
The veteran of 322 race starts lost his Williams seat at the end of the 2011 season but has expressed a desire to return despite his age – 41 years.
Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn couldn’t rule out the Brazilian as a possibility to replace Nico Hulkenberg or Esteban Gutierrez.
“There are a couple of options out there,” she said in Korea. “We know what he [Barrichello] has is experience. He would like to come back, so let’s see.
“I always have to give you the same answer – we will [announce our drivers] in due course.”
Reports that he could be behind the wheel during the 19th race of the season is however a fabricated story, the Indian confirmed.
“I don’t see any possibility there. We have no reason to change our two drivers for that race.”
