Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that he is actively helping Felipe Massa find a seat on the 2014 grid in an effort to ensure Brazil still has driver in the sport next year.
The South American country is one of the sports largest markets and the loss of Massa – the only Brazilian in F1 – could damage F1’s viewing figures.
82-year-old Ecclestone is therefore keen to see Massa in a top seat next season.
“I am trying to help; it’s not easy, but we’re working on it,” he said.
Lotus, Williams, Force India and Sauber are the main targets, but Ecclestone believes it could depend on whether Massa can gain significant backing from a local sponsor.
“If Felipe gets some sponsors, everything will change and Brazil should have a driver on the grid in 2014,” he added.
“A strong economy like the one in Brazil is in a good position to invest in a driver.”
