CCTV footage shows why Alonso/Webber penalised

CCTV footage has emerged showing Mark Webber flagging Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari down for a lift back to the pits. The incident led to both drivers being reprimanded – whilst Webber will drop 10-places in Korea as it’s his third reprimand of the season.

The stewards explained that Webber and Alonso put others in danger with their actions. Whilst it wasn’t clear on TV, the footage from a trackside CCTV camera clearly shows how dangerous it was, with both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton having to take action to avoid the stationary car, whilst Webber himself is narrowly missed.

Speaking about the incident, Hamilton said he was ‘shocked’: “I was doing my in-lap, came around the corner and Fernando was there, and I was really shocked,” said Hamilton.

“I went to the right of him, but if Mark had been walking across where I went then I would have run him over. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.”
