Lewis Hamilton believes Ferrari will have the strongest driver line-up in 2014 after replacing Felipe Massa with Kimi Raikkonen.
Many consider Mercedes to currently have the best pairing in 2008-champion Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg – who are the only pairing to have both won a race this year.
Hamilton says that ‘title’ will have to be handed over to the Italian team. At present, barring any surprise driver announcements, Ferrari’s line-up will likely be the only one to feature two champions.
Speaking about the pairing, he said: “We want to beat them. This year we can beat them in the constructors’ [championship] but at the end of the day it is going to be a stronger team [next year].
“Kimi is driving sensationally well this year, so I assume he will do the same next year. Fernando is driving sensationally well.
“They talk about us having the strongest driver line-up, and now I think it has switched over to them.”
With many suggesting things could flare up having two dominant drivers in the team, Hamilton – who himself has been in the same situation with Alonso at McLaren in 2007 – believes the Spaniard has matured like himself, which should decrease the chances of the same occurring.
“I think it is great,” he added. “You have two of the best drivers in one team at Ferrari. It is interesting to see the dynamics and how it will play out. I will sit back and watch…I am not going to say anything to add to any suggestions!
“I feel we have both grown and matured quite a lot. Our relationship, as you know, has improved quite a lot.”
