Ferrari has been fined £8,500 ($13,000, €10,000) by the stewards for an incident involving Felipe Massa during first practice for the Italian Grand Prix.
The Brazilian was sent out in the closing seconds to perform a practice start at the end of the pitlane, but he crossed the white line denoting the end of the pits just as the session ended and therefore he passed a red light at the exit.
Ferrari were fined for breaching article 31.3 of the sporting regulations, but will face no further punishment as they didn’t gain an advantage as Massa stopped the car and climbed out, rather than circulating the Monza track back to the pits.
“The driver made every attempt to stop when seeing the red light, however the team made an error in releasing the car with insufficient time remaining in the session. No sporting advantage was gained,” read a statement from the stewards.
