Kimi Raikkonen isn’t pondering a move to the GP3 Series, but the Finnish driver did get behind the wheel of 2013 GP3 car provided by the Koiranen team on Friday.
The Lotus driver, who currently sits second in the Formula 1 championship, lent a helping hand to the series in order to provide feedback which will be used by the organisers to improve overtaking possibilities in 2014 as well running tyre comparisons for Pirelli.
The one-day session saw Raikkonen cover 58 laps and post a best time of 1:34.780. That time was slower than Kevin Korjus’s 1:34.193 in same car which gave the Estonian pole position.
Raikkonen said about the test: “I wanted to test the GP3/13 because my friend Afa Heikkinen has a team in this Series and I have been closely following their progress and results since the beginning of the season.
“I was curious to see how the car handled and it was actually fun to drive. There were a few issues regarding its behaviour, but we managed to solve most of them. The GP3/13 is a very good tool for young drivers, especially when you have to learn about tyre management like we have in F1.”
