Sebastian Vettel has no say in who his team-mate will be next season according to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.
With Mark Webber announcing his retirement from Formula 1, the task of finding a replacement driver for one of the most coveted seats in the sport has fallen to the outfit’s management; Horner, Helmut Marko and owner Dietrich Mateschitz.
Vettel doesn’t, and hasn’t, had a say in the matter Horner insists.
“I don’t think he minds [who he partners] to be honest,” said the Briton.
“I don’t think Sebastian has any concerns about going up against any driver, and he hasn’t voiced a preference either way. He knows Kimi [Raikkonen] and he knows Daniel [Ricciardo].
“Both are very quick drivers and would represent a challenge for him, but he has not looked to influence the team in any way as to which way we should be looking.”
Should they opt for Raikkonen, Horner is adamant he will get the same chances as Vettel.
“Both drivers get the same opportunity,” he added.
“It’s down to what they do on the track that determines who is the lead driver or not, and the lead driver at any given time is the one who has the most points.”
