Sutil not committing his future to Force India

Adrian Sutil is refusing to commit his future to Force India with a number of seats becoming available further up the grid thanks to Mark Webber’s retirement.

The Australian’s decision to leave Red Bull has started what could be a major reshuffle, with Kimi Raikkonen joint-favourite to replace him, leaving an opening at Lotus and the possible ousting of Felipe Massa at Ferrari should his results not improve.

That has left Sutil with questions about his future and where he would like to be next season, though he insists his allegiances lie with Force India at present after they welcomed him back from his year away from the sport.

“Let’s see what the future brings, I don’t know,” he is quoted as saying. “There are some interesting seats available but it depends on certain drivers moving, and then the carousel turns. It’s a bit too early.

“I have my goals, I know where I want to go; I have my plans for the future.

“I won’t tell it now of course, it would make things too easy. But I’m a loyal person to this team, and whatever I do I will speak to Vijay [Mallya] first.”

The biggest barriers to getting a break in Formula 1 remains finances, and whilst Sutil already has a seat to prove his talent, he still believes money is a factor in his future.

“It’s difficult – in F1 the money is not really there,” he added. “The top teams are doing very well, but the teams outside that are struggling to survive.

“They need drivers with sponsorship because they can’t get it themselves, so sometimes with rare nationalities it is easier to get sponsors and that’s why teams are looking for these kinds of drivers.

“The best package would be a great driver, able to be world champion, with a big sponsorship; then you have no problems.”
