Kamui Kobayashi was caught out by the slippery surface during a demonstration run on Sunday during the Moscow City Racing event and ended up in the barriers.
The Japanese driver, who competes for Ferrari in the World Endurance Championship, took to the street circuit to perform for the Russian spectators. However heavy rain caught Kobayashi out during his final run and he ended up crashing his F60 into the barriers, heavily damaging the front-end.
Ferrari’s Clienti department mechanics managed to ready a second car, allowing Kobayashi to complete his run against the backdrop of the walls of the Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral.
“It was great to be able to represent Scuderia Ferrari at such an important event,” he said after. “It is important to be able to bring Formula 1 close to the public with promotional events like this: a shame about the rain as otherwise the crowd might have been even bigger.
“The crash? The track was very slippery and there was a marked bump at that point, which is why I hit the barrier. A shame, but I am pleased the team let me out again after a few minutes.”
