Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has been awarded an OBE for his services to motorsport in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
The 39-year-old has led Red Bull to a double hat-trick of championships and looks set to challenge for a fourth this season.
He expressed his surprise at the news and compared it to his current achievements.
“It’s all a bit unexpected. Incredible really,” said the former-driver who hung up his racing boots to instead manage the Arden F3000 team before joining Red Bull when they took over Jaguar.
“I’m naturally shocked, but I just feel very honoured and privileged to receive it.
“To be in the company of men and women who have achieved such great things for the country is something very, very special.
“This is right up there with what I have achieved in motor sport.
“You look at the list of people and what they have done across all different industries, charities, for their communities, then I’m hugely honoured.”
