Adrian Sutil has criticised the “inconsistent” stewards after he was handed a drive-through penalty for ignoring blue flags.
The Force India driver didn’t enjoy the best race after spinning early in race as he tried to pass Valtteri Bottas. He blamed himself for that error.
“I saw a chance there to pass Bottas. He had a bad exit out of turn two and we were side-by-side into this first chicane and I was really inside on the kerb and it just spun me around so it was a racing incident.
“Unlucky, but I was in a way still lucky to turn around the car and go on. That [spin] created all the problems.”
Later in the race he was hit by Pastor Maldonado, adding: “He missed his braking point, as he always does.”
However it was the drive-through for holding up Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso that really angered the German after it dropped him from 7th to 10th.
“I was just racing Raikkonen, I was trying to push on. I gave them the straight to pass me, that’s where Hamilton overtook me then with the DRS as well.
“So I thought, ‘OK’, they spent one lap behind me but that’s usual at this kind of circuit. I spent many laps behind lapped cars until I got past.
“It’s just an inconsistent decision all the time by the FIA. It’s something I don’t understand.”
