Heikki Kovalainen has split with his management company, after they failed to help him secure a Formula 1 seat for the 2013 season.
The Finn, a one-time race winner with McLaren, left Caterham at the end of last year after he and owner Tony Fernandes couldn’t agree a new contract due to a lack of financial backing.
He’s joined the team in a development role, but he’s keen to return to a full-time race seat in 2014, and believes working independently of his management company will give him a better chance at doing so.
“I’m not with IMG anymore,” he confirmed to SpeedTV. “I can confirm that, but I’ve agreed not to talk about it any further than that.
“I’m working on my own now, but right now there are no discussions with anybody else. I’m just focusing on working with Caterham and trying to help the team to move forward this year [before focusing on 2014].”
