The Monaco stewards have referred the protest against Mercedes, lodged by Red Bull and Ferrari, to the FIA, where it could be escalated to go before the International Tribunal.
A meeting following the Monaco Grand Prix, which saw representatives from Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and Pirelli in attendance, lasted some three hours, with a statement from the stewards confirming they were putting a report together for the FIA to review after it came to light that the German outfit conducted a ‘secret’ test at the request of Pirelli.
“The Stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix received protests from Infinity Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari concerning an alleged breach of Article 22.4 (Track and Wind Tunnel Testing) of the FIA Formula One Sporting regulations by Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team,” it read.
“The stewards summoned representatives of the protesting teams, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team and Pirelli.
“After hearing and collecting information the stewards will write a report to the FIA who may bring the matter before the International Tribunal.”
The protest will not affect the Monaco race result – which was won by Nico Rosberg – as that has now been made official and therefore cannot be changed.
