Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg set the quickest time on Thursday morning, narrowly beating Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
The German is favourite to take pole after securing two consecutive front-row starts in the previous two races.
It was a close session with the top eight cars split by just over a second.
It was also drama free minus one error from Adrian Sutil when he span at turn one, miraculously avoiding the barriers on both sides.
