Reports in the German media claim Bernie Ecclestone will be charged with accusations of bribery in Germany later this month.
The 82-year-old has been under investigation ever since the Gerhard Gribkowsky case came to light. Gribkowsky, a german banker, was jailed for eight and a half years back in 2012 for his part in the sale of Formula 1.
It was alleged that Ecclestone bribed him with a £27 million payment to sway the sale in favour of CVC Capital Partners – the sports current majority owner.
The Süddeutschen Zeitung newspaper reports that the investigation into whether Ecclestone should be trialled has come to an end, with the final decision to indict him in late-May for his involvement.
The court case could take place as early as July and will likely impact the flotation of the sport on the stock markets later in the year.
