Jenson Button and Sergio Perez have settled their differences during a meeting with senior team members after the pair came to head in Bahrain.

An intense on-track battle broke out between the pair as they tussled for position during the Bahrain Grand Prix. As the Mexican attempted to pass his team-mate, he made minor contact with the rear, prompting complaints from Button over the radio.

“He  just hit me at the back, calm him down,” said Button. His post-race comments also criticised the 23-year-old for being over aggressive.

Sporting director Sam Michael revealed that the pair spoke behind closed doors and parter on good terms.

“Both Jenson and Checo had an opportunity to express their views to us, and then we gave them the team’s position,” Michael told Autosport.

“That position is quite simple: McLaren allows both its drivers to race hard and fair, and in return its drivers must respect that trust and mustn’t let the team down.

“It was a good discussion, and both Jenson and Checo were keen not only to talk the issues through but also to part on good terms.”

Michael added that the pair both agreed they could have handled the situation better than they did.

“Checo was understandably pleased with his performance, but he appreciates that at times it was too close to the mark.

“Likewise, Jenson acknowledges that during the race he reacted harshly to some of the occurrences.”
