Mark Webber was clearly furious as team-mate Sebastian Vettel refused to follow orders from the Red Bull pit wall to remain behind the Australian.
The German eventually won the Malaysian Grand Prix after overtaking Webber with a daring move at turn one following numerous complaints over the radio.
“Mark is too slow, get him out of the way,” barked Vettel.
With the move completed, Webber took the time to gesture at Vettel with his middle finger and was clearly unhappy after the race.
“The team told me the race was over and we turned the engines down. Seb made his own decision and he’ll be protected as usual,” he said during the podium interviews conducted by Martin Brundle.
“It’s very raw and we need to work out how the team goes forwards best from here.”
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko admitted they would sit down and have a word with both drivers following the controversy.
“We told the drivers to stay in position. At this stage, it got out of control. The team will have a word,” he said.
“It’s not as clear as at Mercedes where they have a clear number one and two. We treat our drivers fairly,” he added.
Vettel was then overheard apologising to Webber after the podium ceremony: “I made a big mistake today.”
