Sergio Perez admits he’s under more pressure this season now that he’s joined a top team, but he’s not concerned by it and says anyone who is, shouldn’t be where they are.
“Of course the pressure is higher now,” he told Speed Week during a visit to the Geneva motorshow to unveil McLaren’s new supercar, the P1.
“I have no problems with it,” he added. “Anyone who can’t handle pressure should not sign for McLaren.”
It might not be the easiest year for the Mexican, with many in the paddock believing the Woking outfit are struggling with tyre degradation.
Perez says he struggled to collect data because of the weather but he doesn’t believe McLaren are alone with their problems.
“Of course I would have liked to collect more information before going to Australia.
“Some days it was cold and really difficult to learn about the car,” he said. “But I don’t know anyone in the pitlane who had carefree winter testing. So it’s the same for everyone, not a disadvantage for us.”
