Lotus are hopeful that Kimi Raikkonen will feel well enough to get back behind the wheel on Sunday after he missed Saturday’s test session due to food poisoning.
Team principal Eric Boullier says a final decision will be made on Sunday morning, adding that Raikkonen was feeling better and wanted to drive.
The team had to call on Lotus reserve Davide Valsecchi until Romain Grosjean could return to Barcelona, having flown home to France the day before.
The Frenchman will stay in Spain until it’s certain that he isn’t required – though he admitted he wouldn’t mind the extra mileage.
“I certainly didn’t expect to be in the E21 again today so it was an interruption to a day off, but as interruptions go it was a pretty good one!
“I switched on the mobile phone and I had a message from Alan [Permane] and he said ‘can you call me back because Kimi is not well?’ We would appreciate it if you could make it to Barcelona.’
“I hope that Kimi is feeling better for tomorrow, but I don’t mind driving again if I have to.”
