McLaren took the covers of its brand new car for the 2013 season on Thursday, making it only the second team to have unveiled its new car following Lotus’s launch earlier this week.
The MP4-28 was uncovered at the team’s Woking factory in Surrey and broadcast live via various social media websites.
Once again the car features a flat nose, similar to that of the previous MP4-27, which bucked the trend in 2012 as all but McLaren and Marussia opted for a stepped nose.
Comparisons with its predecessor will be made as much of the car looks similar, but minor developments are visible, such as the revised rear-wishbone which covers the driveshaft – like that of the Red Bull RB8 – and pull-rod front suspension – something Ferrari reintroduced to the sport on their F2012.
The car will be driven by Jenson Button, who arrived at the launch in a prototype P1, and Sergio Perez, who arrived in an orange 12C Spider.
