Timo Glock says the loss of tenth place in the Constructors’ Championship played a major role in him losing his seat at Marussia.
Whilst the Russian owned team has made no secret that financial difficulties led to the decision to drop the German for 2013, Glock revealed it was at that precise moment in Brazil last year, that he knew his seat wasn’t safe.
“We had really counted on being able to keep the tenth place,” Glock told Speed-Academy. “That [moment in Brazil] was when I began to concern myself with the subject.
“The team came to me and told me very clearly and openly what is the situation. I made my thoughts about it and eventually we sat down together and went through the possibilities,” he added.
Marussia are yet to announce Glock’s replacement who will become Max Chilton’s team-mate, but it is highly likely they will bring funding to the outfit – which Glock says is necessary for the outfit to make the required step forward in 2013.
“I then realised how difficult was the economic situation for the team, and that it would therefore be difficult to make the expected step forward.
“They now have a good base and I also believe that the new car will be a step forward,” he concluded.
Glock will race for BMW in the DTM this year after a successful test.
