Lewis Hamilton believes his and Fernando Alonso’s relationship with one another is now on an ‘equal’ footing following their infamous fallout during their time as team-mates at McLaren.
The pair are publicly more friendly with one another, something which has only happened over the past year or so as they have found a mutual respect for one another’s talents.
“My relationship with Fernando has got a lot better,” Hamilton told F1 Racing magazine.
“Finally we’ve got past 2007 – more so on his side than on mine. It seems that he finally appreciates me as a driver, as I appreciate him.
“It’s equal between us now,” he insisted.
Indeed Alonso has sung Hamilton’s praises recently, admitting the Briton is still his strongest rival despite Sebastian Vettel’s three championship wins.
Hamilton shares the same view of Alonso: “I believe he’s the best and he said that in Brazil about me.
“I love that he has that respect for me, because I have that respect for him,” he added.
