Lauda hails ’12 as ‘most entertaining season’

Niki Lauda has hailed the 2012 season as the most entertaining year of racing since the ’80s when he was driving in Formula One.

The Austrian is one of the most outspoken personalities in the paddock and has often criticised modern F1, however the mix of ups and downs this year has, he claims, made it an unbeatable one.

“This season has been outstanding,” proclaimed the 63-year-old. “It couldn’t have been better in terms of these ups and downs for the tyres and the cars.

“This has been the most entertaining season I have seen since I was racing, because when you are racing you have a completely different perspective.”

The season saw a record seven different winners in the first seven races, the most surprising of which was Pastor Maldonado. Whilst Kimi Raikkonen also scored a win during his comeback year. Lauda hailed these two moments as his “success stories” of 2012.

“There’ve been quite a number of success stories this season, mostly drivers. For example, Pastor Maldonado who won the Spanish Grand Prix, and, of course, Kimi Raikkonen. He was outstanding,” added the triple world champion.
