McLaren are hopeful that the development work carried out during the Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test, in which they completed some 1,560km of running, will prove beneficial for the Austin Grand Prix in a weeks time.
The outfit left Abu Dhabi with a less than expected result after Lewis Hamilton, who had dominated the entire weekend, retired from the lead with a fuel pressure issue.
Team principal Martin Whitmarsh is confident that the three-day test which concluded on Thursday, will bring pace to the car for Austin.
“A team like ours uses it [testing] for a range of technical developments so you will see a very heavily-instrumented car doing lots of aerodynamic runs and lots of configurations,” he said of the test in which Kevin Magnussen, Oliver Turvey and Gary Paffett completed more than five race distances without problem.
“I would be disappointed if we come out of that without arriving in Texas with something that we can put on our car that makes us quicker or have a better understanding that makes us quicker, because that is how we are.”
