Marussia’s Charles Pic has been handed a 10-place grid drop for using a ninth new engine for the Korean Grand Prix.
The regulations stipulate that drivers may only use eight new engines per season, with each additional unit incurring a 10-place penalty.
The Marussia team confirmed they would be changing Pic’s Cosworth unit on Friday.
“It is also appropriate at this stage to say that we plan to fit a new engine to Charles’ car this evening in the knowledge that, as his ninth engine of the season, we will incur a 10-place grid penalty on Sunday,” said team principal John Booth.
This unit, plus any other units with remaining life expectancy, must last Pic for the remaining five races.
