McLaren and the Mercedes team have denied reports that Lewis Hamilton is off to the latter outfit to replace Michael Schumacher for 2013.
Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team owner and now BBC pundit, made the claims on Wednesday, insisting the 27-year-old and Mercedes had agreed terms.
A McLaren spokesperson, having been in contact with Hamilton’s management company XIX Entertainment, claimed the story was ‘untrue’.
“We have been told by Lewis Hamilton’s management team that the story is untrue.”
The spokesperson also added that negotiations with the 2008-champion are ongoing and in an advanced stage.
Mercedes dimissed the story as ‘speculation’ and said they expected such rumours at this point in the season.
“Until we are in position to confirm our full driver line-up for next season, it is inevitable that there will be speculation around this topic.
“We would ask for your understanding, however, that we do not comment on speculation.”
