Kimi Raikkonen has escaped punishment for cutting Eau Rouge on his fastest flying lap, after the race stewards deemed he gained no advantage by doing so.
The Lotus driver crossed the white line, identifying the track boundary, with all four wheels on two occasions during Q3 which prompted an FIA investigation.
However, a statement from the governing body confirmed he wouldn’t be penalised as telemetry proved he gained no advantage when compared to previous laps.
“Although Car 9 left the track at Turns 3 and 4 (not only on this lap but also on another lap in Q3) a detailed examination of telemetry and sector times clearly indicate there was no advantage gained because the exit speed was shown to be slower than on other laps where the car did not leave the track,” it read.
