The future of the Belgian Grand Prix has been secured for the short-term, with race organisers confirming a new three-year deal has now been agreed with FOM.
The deal takes the current contract, which was set to expire after next weekend’s race, through to 2015.
The future of the event had been at threat with attempts to pair it with the German GP or a return to France in 2013 on a rotational basis. However, both these plans collapsed which prompted the Spa-Francorchamps organisers to seek a fresh deal.
The deal, confirmed by the Walloon Region’s economy minister Jean-Claude Marcourt, is believed to have been agreed on far more favourable financial terms.
