Hamilton confident McLaren at a turning point

Lewis Hamilton is confident that McLaren has reached a turning points in its title campaign after a difficult start to the season.

The outfit started the season fastest but failed to capitalise on its lead pace mainly due to strategic errors and slow pit-stops, which arguably cost them a shot at two or three more wins than they currently have.

However, whilst they may have finished second and last in Hockenheim, Jenson Button managed to come from sixth to finish just seven seconds behind leader Fernando Alonso whilst Lewis Hamilton suffered a third lap puncture and retired later on but had experienced great pace.

It’s this result, thanks to a major upgrade, which has spurred the team on and Hamilton now feels confident that McLaren can begin to fight back.

“I think there’s good reason to feel confident, too; our Hockenheim upgrade package seems to have delivered the pace we anticipated and a good result just before the summer break would be the perfect way to end the first half of the season,” said the 27-year-old.

“Things haven’t always gone our way in the first half, but I certainly feel like we’re experiencing something of a turning point for the whole team.”

Not only were McLaren on the pace, but they’ve solved their pit-stops issues and are now the quickest in the pitlane, beating their own world record stop which now stands at just 2.4 seconds.

“We’ve really stepped up and delivered the pace we needed, our strategy has been spot-on and our pitstops, despite a troubled start at the beginning of the year, are now consistently the fastest in the pitlane,” added Hamilton.
