Marussia has ruled out that an issue with their car, the MR-01, was the cause of Maria de Villota’s horrific accident earlier this month.
The team, along with the Heath and Safety Executive (HSE), conducted a thorough investigation into the cause, and have ruled out the car ebing at fault, but are yet to offer an explanation as to what actually went wrong.
The Spaniard lost her right eye and suffered facial injuries after she accelerated into the rear lifter of a transporter truck during a straight-line aero test at Duxford Aerodrome.
She is recovering well and is talking to her family.
A statement by the team reads: “We are satisfied that the findings of our internal investigation exclude the car as a factor in the accident,” said team principal John Booth.
“We have shared and discussed our findings with the HSE for their consideration as part of their ongoing investigation.
“This has been a necessarily thorough process in order to understand the cause of the accident. We have now concluded our investigatory work and can again focus on the priority, which continues to be Maria’s wellbeing. In that regard, we continue to support Maria and the De Villota family in any way we can.”
