The FIA has banned the use of the drag-reduction-system under yellow flag conditions, following the confusion over Michael Schumacher’s use of the system at the European Grand Prix.
Schumacher was found to have enabled his rear-wing whilst yellow flags were being waved in Valencia, however having realised, he disengaged the system and therefore avoided any penalty.
The governing body has now confirmed that DRS cannot be used at all under yellows, and the system will be deactivated whilst the cause of the caution is cleared.
Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed that the new rule was implemented and put into action at the British GP on Sunday following an incident between Sergio Perez and Pastor Maldonado.
In further clarification, the FIA confirmed that drivers would avoid penalties if they can prove they intentionally slowed whilst passing an incident.
