Red Bull will sit down with Mark Webber in the coming weeks to discuss his future at the team, team principal Christian Horner confirmed on Friday.
The Australian, who currently sits second in the drivers’ championship ahead of his team-mate and current champion Sebastian Vettel, is out of contract at the end of the season.
Despite his contractual position, Webber fully expects to remain in F1 next year: “I’m really, really enjoying my work,” he said. “For next year? Yeah, there’s a pretty decent chance I’ll be racing in Formula 1.”
Whilst he stopped short of saying for whom, having been linked to Ferrari, Horner hinted that an extended deal with Red Bull was likely.
“We’re reaching that time of the year that we’ll sit down and talk about the future,” confirmed Horner.
“With Mark, he’s driving very well this year, I think his enthusiasm for Formula 1 is clearly there. I think he’s in great shape, and he’s delivering in the car, so we’ll sit down over the next few weeks and start to talk about the future.”
