Sponsored video: Delivering F1 to the world

Formula 1 is a truly global sport, visiting 19 countries in the space of nine months, it covers vast distances clocking up tens of thousands of miles each race weekend to deliver a great racing spectacle.

Little attention is however paid to the race taking place behind the scenes. A race which, without the support of a major logistical partner such as DHL, would see the series collapse under the intense pressures of transporting and organising over 20,000 items of equipment, ranging from the smaller items to cater for VIP guests such as; serviettes and champagne glasses, to the larger items; engines, gearboxes and the cars themselves.

Said equipment weighs in at over 300 tonnes, enough to fill five Boeing 747 planes and 35 shipping containers.

DHL has to think ahead. With costs becoming an ever increasing worry for the teams, much of their equipment is shipped to flyaway races rather than flown, such as those in Brazil and Australia, which can take between six and seven weeks to arrive. But the high pace nature of the world’s fastest sport also calls for last-minute deliveries. DHL is able to deliver items to races in less than 24 hours, which can be vital to a team if it requires an additional front-wing for example.

The logistical race takes place on a gigantic scale, which simply wouldn’t run as smoothly as it does without DHL’s 20 years of motor sport experience.

DHL serves as a global partner and the official logistics provider for Formula 1. Both Formula 1 and DHL rely on speed, precision and teamwork for their success.
