Lewis Hamilton will join the Olympic festivities by carrying the torch on the Monday after the British Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver had initially been asked to carry the flame through his birthtown of Stevenage, but the dates clashed with the start of the British GP.
He will now run with the torch on Monday is what he described as “an incredibly proud moment.”
“I am so honoured to have been asked to do it,” he told Reuters. “I never in a million years would have thought I’d get to do something so cool.
“I have no idea where I’ll be running but it’s great to be the one.”
