McLaren hope to have solved the problems which have plagued Jenson Button’s form recently, as the Brit has seemingly struggled to get the most from his car.
Whilst his team-mate Lewis Hamilton drove to victory in Canada a fornight ago, Button was only able to finish 16th and struggled in qualifying too.
McLaren are adamant nothing was wrong with Button’s car.
“I think Canada was very interesting because fundamentally we run the same car for both drivers and they both have the same parts available,” said operations director Simon Roberts during a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in.
“We’re pretty sure at the moment that there was nothing untoward with Jenson’s car and actually nothing fundamentally wrong with the set-up, but in the subtleties of these cars there are some differences, and I think going to Valencia we are optimistic that we’ve identified that.”
Roberts explained that much work has been done back at the factory to understand the issues and they believe some subtle changes will make the difference this weekend.
“We’ve been able to actually capitalise on that and there’s been a huge amount of work back at the factory analysing the data and just checking that everything was as we thought it was.
“I think we can have a slightly different way of getting Jenson’s car under him for both qualifying and the race.”
