All 20 circuits on the 2012 Formula 1 calendar have joined forces to have a greater say on the future of the sport.
A new company under the name, Formula One Promoters’ Association (FOPA), was formed and registered in Geneva in May, according to a report in the Independent.
The association is chaired by Australian Grand Prix chairman Ron Walker who says the circuits will “use the association to lodge their proxies to vote on major issues affecting the sport.”
Meanwhile Silverstone chairman Neil England said the grouping together gives the circuits a single, powerful voice to express any concerns with the sports future.
“We have historically lacked a co-ordinated voice and the Formula One Promoters Association gives us the opportunity to have that.
“There are a number of matters of common interest and I think it is important that those are voiced,” he said.
It’s believed the decision to unite comes as the circuits wish to have a greater say in the Concorde Agreement negotiations which are currently taking place.
