The F1 Times gambling contest between Ryan Wood (Editor) and Daniel Chalmers (Feature Editor) heads to the fourth round in Bahrain.
To remind you of the rules both men have a budget of £5 to spend on a maximum of 3 different bets relating to the race weekend. The deadline for these bets to be placed is before the start of the first Friday practice session.
At the end of the season the winner will be the person who has made the most profit, or made the lowest loss.
Here are the results from the last time.
Ryan Wood
Bet 1 – Three retirements on lap 1 – £1.00 at 14/1
Bet 2 – Hamilton to win and set fastest lap – £2.00 at 6/1
Bet 3 – Raikkonen to finish on the podium – £2.00 at 4/1
Daniel Chalmers
Bet 1 – Romain Grosjean to be the fastest qualifier at 33/1 – £1 each way
Bet 2 – Kimi Raikkonen to win the race at 14/1 – £1 each way
Bet 3 – Mark Webber to get the fastest lap of the race at 13/2 – £1 stake
Neither Ryan nor Daniel won any money from the third round of betting in China. This is now the second consecutive weekend that neither has won anything.
So far £15 has been spent by both men. As it stands Ryan has £8.00 worth of profit thanks to a strong opening weekend in Australia. Daniel has yet to win a single bet and therefore has £15 worth of losses.

Round 4 Bahrain
Ryan Wood
Bet 1 – Kimi Raikkonen to finish on the podium at 7/2 – £1 stake
The warmer conditions should suit Lotus and if they can pick the right strategy and keep tyre wear to a minimum, I think either Raikkonen or Romain Grosjean could very pick up their first podium of the season. I’ve chosen Raikkonen as the stronger driver of the two to seal the deal.
Bet 2 – Hamilton to win and set fastest lap at 13/2 – £2 stake
I’ve chosen Hamilton to win most of the races so far this season and he’s disappointed with his three third places. Surely he’s got to win a race sooner or later? Fastest lap added as a bonus purely because the betting odds of him winning alone were low.
Bet 3 – Three cars to retire on lap 1 at 20/1 – £2 stake
We’ve not had many turn one pile-ups or coming togethers for a while. Good odds are what attracted me to this bet rather than any experience. The first turn in Bahrain is slow, tight and follows a relatively long run from the start line, so I think we could see some contact and hopefully, for the benefit of my betting balance, three retirements. No less. No more.
Daniel Chalmers
Bet 1 – Nico Rosberg to get pole position at 4/1 – £1 stake
I think these are good odds for the man who completely dominated qualifying in China. After winning his first grand prix I think Nico will arrive in Bahrain on a huge high, and it will do wonders for his confidence. His first two difficult weekends of the season in Australia and Malaysia are now a long distant memory.
The boiling hot temperatures might see Mercedes struggle a bit more in race trim than in China, but with three long straights I have no doubt they will be a huge force in qualifying again. Michael Schumacher and even Jenson Button had more attractive odds for pole but the idea of a bet is to win it, and I can’t look beyond Nico.
Bet 2 – Mark Webber to finish on the podium at 3/1 – £2 stake
Webber has had a series of three fourth positions to start 2012, so just needs to progress by one position to win me some money.
Overall his pace has been very good so far this season. When he was in clear air in Melbourne he was extremely quick. Had he not botched the start I think he would have been on the podium there.
The Malaysian and Chinese GPs were run in wet and cool conditions respectively, which doesn’t seem to suit Red Bull. I think the car will work much better in the hot track temperatures expected this weekend, and may even be an outsider for race victory.
At the moment Webber seems much happier with the car than Sebastian Vettel is, so taking everything into account I think Mark is a very good bet for the podium this weekend.
In fact I am wondering if I should been brave and betted on Mark to win the race, as I think Red Bull are going to have their most competitive 2012 weekend so far.
Bet 3 – Kimi Raikkonen to finish on the podium at 15/4 – £2 stake
It just doesn’t seem to be happening for Lotus. Surely the first big result of the season is going to come soon, and hopefully it will be this weekend.
Raikkonen was quick again in China but a mixture of poorly judged strategy and average pit stops meant that he finished well down the order, rather than on the podium.
Considering the car isn’t as effective in cool conditions the pace they showed in China was quite promising. I think like Red Bull, Lotus will be very competitive in hot conditions.
Providing Lotus have learnt from their tactical errors of last weekend, and Kimi can keep driving well as he has been doing, I am confident he can be on the podium.
