Jenson Button goes into the second race of the 2012 season full of confidence after taking victory at the season opening Australian GP.
The 2009 world champion, who opens his points account with the maximum 25, is brimming with confidence after dominating the race from start to finish.
“The start was great, the launch was great and I got all excited when I saw myself alongside Lewis,” said Button. “He did a great job yesterday and put it on pole and I got as close as I could and then today we came away with the victory.
“It felt good. I’m very happy with the way the car is, sometimes you can have a car which is very good at the start of a stint, sometimes at the end of a stint but it doesn’t do both and we have a good balance.
“We were doing fuel saving for some of the race which made it quite hard to keep heat in the tyres but all in all great. I got the fastest lap of the race which obviously isn’t everything, but I just needed to show at the end what we could do.”
The team will begin preparing for the second race next weekend, and with a victory on their back, Button says the team will be more motivated than ever.
“To win at the start of the season is great for yourself and gives motivation to the whole team, not that they need it. They’re working flat out.
“This is great for these guys who have put in so much hard work and effort and get a days rest before we head off to Malaysia. Tomorrow we’ll start concentrating on the next race.
“We always said if we had a good winter we’d start the season on a high and we’ve done exactly that. The car gives me a lot of confidence.”
