Sauber team principal Peter Sauber has set his team ‘very ambitious’ targets for the upcoming season, and believes the outfit is in a position to achieve them.
The Swiss team has impressed during pre-season testing, but with a predicted tighter mid-field battle, something Sauber himself alluded too, the team faces an uphill battle to improve on its seventh placed Constructors’ finish last year.
“The winter tests left the impression that the competition could be tighter than ever before,” he said. “Apparently the mid-field teams have reduced the gap to the top teams.”
This gives the 68-year-old encouragement that his drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez, can achieve the high targets the team has set itself.
“I am really pleased with the progress we made during testing and I think we are well prepared. We have to be because we have set ourselves quite high targets for 2012.
“We want to score points on a regular basis and significantly improve our position in the constructors’ championship. We are well aware that this sounds very ambitious, but this is what we are working on.”
