Young line-up will give added spark – Di Resta

Force India driver Paul di Resta doesn’t believe the relatively young and inexperienced pairing the outfit has chosen for 2012 will hinder their progress.

Team principal and owner Vijay Mallya chose to retain 25-year-old Di Resta, pairing the Scot with Nico Hulkenberg, a year his junior. Both drivers have a years experience behind the wheel, the latter spent his rookie year with Williams and even claimed pole position at the 2010 Brazilian GP.

Di Resta believes the pairing will make Force India an even greater force in 2012.

“It’s a young team in terms of the driver line-up but it should give the team a spark,” said Di Resta. “We need to be good teammates, work well together but also have a competitive nature on track so we can bounce off each other. I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that and support each other.

“We’re both on equal territory, as we have the same experience, so it should be good. We’re already working together, pushing ideas to the team to try and improve from last year and that is being taken on board.”

Di Resta is also hoping his second year in the sport will give him the competitive edge he didn’t have during his rookie year.

“My second year is going to be where experience plays in as well: I can arrive at grands prix this year and know what is going to change, what to look for and how to get the perfect balance. Getting that little extra edge is so difficult against these guys because they know it inside out.”
