Nico Rosberg says he backs Mercedes decision to launch their car at the second test rather than the first, opting to instead run their 2011 car in Jerez.
The Anglo-German outfit will use the extra two weeks for development purposes, which they believe to be a better approach to the season, before debuting the W03 in Barcelona on February 21st.
“It is just the choice that they have made and I am happy with that,” Rosberg told Autosport.
“It is the compromise between testing early enough and having enough time to develop,” he added. “They need to find a middle way – and they have decided that that is the best way to do it.”
It’s a different approach to their 2011 timetable which saw them debut their car at the first test. Their main competitiors, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari have all confirmed they intend to run their 2012 cars at the first test.
