Whilst he struggles at the very back of the grid, Timo Glock believes if he were sat in a Red Bull alongside double world champion and fellow countryman Sebastian Vettel, he would be just as quick.
Glock, who drives for Virgin (soon to be Marussia), is yet to finish higher than 14th with the team since joining in 2010 – a result he achieved at the Japanese GP last season.
But, had he the same machinery as Vettel, it would be different story, according to the 29-year-old who will get the opportunity to compete against Vettel, Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button and Vitaly Petrov in identical machinery this weekend at the Race of Champions (ROC).
When asked how determined he was to beat Vettel, he replied: “Very! I know I’m just as good as Seb.
“If we were both sitting in a Red Bull, only the form of the day would make the difference,” he told German newspaper, Kolner Express.
“So I’m very curious to see how the comparison pans out.”
Glock recently signed a three-year contract extension with the now Russian owned team, but despite often expressing his views in the cockpit in a negative manner, he always remains motivated.
“I recently sat with an old Toyota mechanic and he asked me how I can stay motivated because we were fighting for the podium and now I’m fighting for 20th place.
“It’s simple, when I get into the car, I’m always motivated. Even when it’s for the wooden spoon, I just fight until the last metre.”
